Giethoorn is a worldwide popular tourist destination in the Netherlands. In the old portion of the village, there was clearly no roads, and all transport was completed by water more than one of the many waterways, but currently you can find a cycling path. The lakes in Giethoorn were established by peat discovering.

Giethoorn is a town in the Dutch region of Overijssel. It is actually situated in the town of Steenwijkerland, around 5 kilometers southwest of Steenwijk. Giethoorn was once a carefree area recognized in the Netherlands as "Venice of the North" or "Venice of the Netherlands". It started to be popular, particularly right after 1958, as soon as the Dutch film producer Bert Haanstra made his popular comedy "Fanfare" there. It was established by fugitives through the Mediterranean area in about AD 1230. Giethoorn was an individual town until 1973, when it grew to become part of Brederwiede.
